The Arena Football League has been rattled, dwindled down to just four remaining teams following a mass exodus in recent days. Among the departed teams reportedly includes the L.A. KISS, a team co-owned by legendary rockers Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of KISS (along with their manager Doc McGhee). While the details remain sparse regarding the cease of operations, it’s the lack of details that is the most concerning and telling.

The OC Register first reported the story, with the most concrete piece of information coming from the AFL Player’s Union Executive Director Ivan Soto, who wrote, “As I understand, (the KISS) won’t be involved in any football moving forward.” KISS players and fans have been left to ponder the future of the team and have yet to receive any formal notification about the apparent dissolution.

L.A. KISS defensive end Caesar Rayford commented, “Arena Football didn’t notify us. The team didn’t notify us. And then boom. You have guys who are out of a job now, guys that are still in the dark. People have to make decisions. With Arena Football, these are guys that have to get things in order.”

Over the summer of 2013 it was revealed that the L.A. KISS would enter the Arena Football League and take the field in 2014. The inaugural year was a relative success, drawing on average just under 11,000 fans a game. That number steadily dropped over the next two years, bottoming out at just over 7,000 fans on average last season.

Simmons and Stanley are not the only rockers with Arena Football woes. In December of 2015, Motley Crue icon Vince Neil was accused of defrauding investors of his AFL team, the Las Vegas Outlaws.
