Downtown Galveston will be filled with the sound of steel drums and the smell of Jerk chicken as all things Jamaican will be celebrated with the Ja-Ga Reggae Festival April 13th to 15th in Galveston Texas.

The Jamaica Foundation of Houston is putting on the first Ja-Ga Reggae Festival this April in celebration of Jamaica's 50 years of independence.  The festival will be held on Pier 21 and many events are planned, like a Fashion Show, Food, Eating contests (beware the Scotch Bonnet), vendors featuring authentic island artistry, and the "Taste of Jamaica Jerk Cook-off".

All weekend long the sounds of the Caribbean will be in the air, as the reggae rhythms fill the streets of Galveston with a major headlining act to appear, and bands from all major US cities competing in a battle of the bands "Reggae Edition", for 12 hours of recording time, bragging rights, and a major publicity push.

The inaugural Ja-Ga Reggae Festival begins with a VIP party Friday April 13th, but the rest of the weekend events will be free to the public.
