The Texarkana, Texas Independent School District is inviting the public to tour its two new campuses that just recently opened.

An Open House will be held at Waggoner Creek Elementary and the new Sixth Grade Center at Texas Middle School. The open house event will be this Saturday, September 10, from 10AM to 1PM and everyone is invited to attend.

Waggoner Creek Elementary is located at 6335 Gibson Lane. With a total of 67,800 square feet, the school features a pod design for extended learning spaces. Included in the design are: 22 classrooms; Research & Design Center/Library; Media Center; Art Room; Gymnasium; Cafeteria and Kitchen.

Serving students in kindergarten through fifth grade, the facility has been designed and positioned for add-on space for future enrollment growth. Attendance zone for the school is all property within the TISD boundaries located north of Interstate 30.

The new Sixth Grade Center at Texas Middle School, located at 2015 Kennedy Lane, has a total of 65,800 square feet and houses 23 student classrooms and seven student labs.  School capacity has been designed for 700 students.  Other lab areas included are for Art, Music, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) Academy and IDEAs (Innovative Design & Exploration of the Arts) Academy along with a Research & Design Center/Library, Cafeteria and Kitchen.

Both campuses were approved by taxpayers during the November 4, 2014 Bond Election for $29.9 million.  The election addressed overcrowding due to enrollment increases during the past 12 years of an average 146 students per year.  Enrollment growth in the upcoming five years is anticipated to remain on par with past increases and more classroom space at the elementary and middle school levels were needed to accommodate students and maintain an appropriate student/teacher ratio.
