But really...has anyone seen that Super Size Me movie? Besides the fact that it makes me gag just thinking about it, it's almost a sad testament to the state of people in the United States.

I remember watching that movie in health class back in middle school. It is a sign people. A sign that we should care more about our health and eat more fruits and veggies (not to sound like your mom or anything).

But on a side note- your parents do know best and they aren't kidding when they say it's better for you to eat more fruits and veggies. The Union of Concerned Scientists can tell you everything you need to know about why it is better for you (and our economy) to eat more fruits and vegetables.

I'll go ahead and give you just a few of the benefits to eating more healthy. American farmers could easily produce the extra fruits and veggies we need to consume and if we produced more crops, it would create almost 200,000 new jobs in local food systems.

If you don't believe me though, the least you could do to help out our community would be to buy fresh produce from local growers! Don't know where to look to do that? Don't worry, I've got you covered.

  • First I would stop by our own Texarkana, Texas Farmers' Market on Texas Blvd.
  • Or, while you're driving around town and see vendors stopped at the corner of busy intersections, hop out of your car and buy some fresh produce. It is always good and it supports your local community.

If you're still a little wary on what the benefits are of eating more fruits and veggies, just check out the graphic from the UCS below!
