Motley Crue frontman Vince Neil underwent successful surgery in an Australian hospital Sunday after suffering an attack of kidney stones during a Saturday-night concert in Sydney.

On his Facebook page Sunday evening, Crue bassist Nikki Sixx explained the band cut short their planned set by four songs the night before when the pain that the 52-year-old Neil felt became too great. “He was doubled over on his dressing room floor 5 minutes till show time and was told by the promoter to not even play, but Vince said he couldn’t do that to the fans,” Sixx posted.

Sixx added, “I’ve seen Vinnie go onstage with broken bones, his voice completely blown out and torn ligaments but he never ever cancels…Just like an athlete you sometimes have to play through the pain but last night it became [too] excruciating.”

Crue is still scheduled to play their next show Down Under, in Brisbane on Tuesday night.
