Just when your faith in humanity was restored with the heartwarming story about 'Batkid', something like this happens.

A mother and her son out in Albuquerque, New Mexico thought it would be funny to put a live Chihuahua puppy inside of a Ziploc bag and post the photo to Facebook.

Mary Snell and James Engel are facing felony animal cruelty charges after getting arrested when someone shared the photo to the sheriff department's Facebook page.

Snell and Engel told police that they put the puppy in the Ziploc bag just to show how small it was. The two also claim that the bag was not even sealed. Investigators say whether the bag was sealed or not, the little puppy could have still suffocated very quickly without the ability to move its head.

According to KOAT-TV, the puppy is now safe and with another family member.

Extreme animal cruelty is a fourth-degree felony, which carries a penalty of up to 18 months in prison.
