Lt. Tommy Garner decided to hang up his duty belt for the last time, having just retired from the Miller County Sheriff’s Office after six years of service and 42 years in law enforcement. Lt. Garner began his career in 1973 with the Miller County Sheriff’s Office. He worked at the Texarkana, Ark. Police Department for four years before joining the Bureau of Prisons. After his retirement from BOP, Lt. Garner came back to where his career began.

Lt. Garner said “After 42 years of service in the criminal justice field I plan to spend time with my wife and enjoy life. It’s been a good career.”

Due to the retirement of Lt. Garner, Sheriff Ron Stovall announced the following promotions; Sgt. William Young to the rank of Lieutenant. Lt. Young will assume command of the Patrol Division. Cpl. Billy Bohannan to the rank of Sergeant. Sheriff Ron Stovall said “I would like to congratulate Tommy on his retirement.

"His service to the Miller County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Miller County has been appreciated. The accomplishments achieved throughout his career as well as the dedication to this agency are well known. I wish him the best of times with his family, friends, and community in his retirement years. I would like to also extend congratulations to Lieutenant William Young and Sgt. BillyBohannan on their respective promotions. I know they will continue to reflect the professionalism and dedication as they have done throughout their tenure with the Miller County Sheriff's Office."
