The Bowie County Master Gardener organization is getting geared up for its annual spring plant sale.This year's event will be held Saturday April 11 at the T&P Trail Head Park near the corner of Highway 82 and Ellis Street in downtown New Boston, Texas. The sale will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. or until sold out. There will be walking tours of the Master Gardener demonstration beds at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.

This year's plant sale offerings are expected to include, Crinum Lilies, Feverfews, Tiger Lilies, Lemon Grass, Solomon's Seal, Rose Champion, Lenten Rose, trees and more.

According to the American Horticultural Society, the Master Gardener program, typically offered through universities in the United States and Canada, provides intense home horticulture training to individuals who then volunteer in their communities, giving lectures, creating gardens, conducting research, and many other projects.

The Bowie County Master Gardeners is a  501(c)(3) volunteer organization that strives to educate the public about horticulture through education programs and community oriented projects.The Bowie County AgriLife Extension office is involved with the Master Gardeners, the 4-H Clubs of Bowie County, and many more entities in the county.

County Extension agents typically engage in agriculture and natural resources programs and work with farmers, ranchers and communities to improve productivity while protecting the environment.

They might advise a farmer which variety of a crop grows best in his county, train him in the safe application of pesticides or educate him on crop rotation to prevent soil depletion. They might advise ranchers on feeding, breeding, or disease prevention and treatment.
