Magnolia Fire Department Demonstrates Fire Safety to SAU Theatre Class [PHOTOS]

Magnolia Fire Chief Greg Pinner and members of his department put on a fire safety demonstration for Southern Arkansas University theatre students in the stagecraft class Wednesday morning on the steps of Overstreet Hall.

Richard Vollmer, SAU production manager, said the students are beginning a unit on safety and the fire safety demonstration was mandatory for all 35 students. They were allowed to test a fire extinguisher, don protective equipment, and were given a tour of Magnolia’s pumper trucks. Pinner also gave safety tips, such as how to escape a fire, and stressed the importance of developing a pre-fire plan. Locations of exits and fire extinguishers should be included in this plan. Pinner said Magnolia’s purchase of a $1 million pumper was primarily for the protection of SAU, which has several multi-story buildings on campus that are “far from the road.”
