The Texarkana community has lost a radio broadcasting legend.

Longtime Texas High Sports announce Al Hanna passed away Thursday November 6th at the age of 75. Hanna spent 50 years broadcasting Texas High Sports on the radio in Texarkana. Hanna called all kinds of sports, including Tiger Baseball and basketball, but is best known for his 50 years of broadcasting Tiger Football. For most of those years he was the play-by-play man behind the microphone and had in the last few years become the color commentator.

There was no better ambassador for Texas High sports than Al Hanna. But just as importantly, Al was a genuinely nice guy. I was the play-by-play man for the Tigers chief rival the Arkansas High Razorbacks for 15 years. Not once did I ever arrive at Tiger Stadium at Grim Park, that I was not greeted warmly by Al, who always wanted to make sure that everything was ready to go in the Visiting Radio booth and wanted to know how I was doing.

Al Hanna was one of the good guys and a broadcasting legend and he will be missed. His shoes will be impossible to fill over at Texas High. Our hearts and prays go out to Al's family, friends, co-workers, and Texas High Family.
