Amanda Kinney, 8th Grade Math Interventionist and Team Leader for Texas Middle School, has been named one of three Finalists for the Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) High Impact Teacher of the Year.  The award is presented to teachers who exhibit exemplary use along with a wide variety of technology tools to enhance the learning of all students.

“I am thrilled to receive this acknowledgement from TCEA,” said Kinney.  “As a Math Interventionist, the usage of technology in my classroom allows me to teach to an entire class with differing math abilities.  It also allows the student to perform without judgment from other students and to become more vocal in the class setting versus shying away because of fear of speaking.”

Kinney has been with the TISD Tiger Family since 2011.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from University of Arkansas – Monticello along with a Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction from Texas A&M University – Texarkana.  Kinney will graduate in May with her second Masters in Educational Leadership and Principal Certification.

“I knew very early on that I wanted to be a teacher due in part to the impact my eighth grade teacher had on my life,” shared Kinney.  “Her efforts showed me that I wanted to be able to do for others what she did for me – have a heart for kids.”

“Amanda is one of the most dedicated teachers we have at Texas Middle School,” added Tim Lambert, Principal.  She is extremely innovative when it comes to her usage of technology and cares deeply about improving her student’s math abilities.”

Kinney served as the TMS Robotics Club sponsor for the past four years and is currently serving as the Inventions Club sponsor.  Having the opportunity to work with kids through these two avenues lets her do more than just math.  “It’s an outlet to see students problem solve and work collaboratively and creatively together.”

Kinney will be honored during the TCEA Educator Awards Reception to be held on February 7 in Austin, TX.
