Kyle Busch may not win any popularity contests, but he wins races, and swept the weekend at Texas Motor Speedway with victories in both the Nationwide O’reilly 300 on Friday, and the Sprint Cup NRA 500 Saturday night.

Lots of news from Texas Motor Speedway this last weekend. Beginning with Kyle Busch winning the pole position for the NRA 500 with a track record setting speed on Friday afternoon, and finishing the weekend off with with the checkered flag and a win on his 300th Sprint Cup start. In between, he arguably became one of the most winning drivers ever in the Nationwide series with a victory in Friday night’s O’Reilly Auto Parts 300.

In the end of the first NRA 500, it was Kyle Busch with the win, followed by Martin Truex Jr. in second, Carl Edwards in third, Greg Biffle finished fourth and rounding out the top 5 was Joey Logano, who almost missed the starting grid after failing inspection… more on that below.

As Duck Dynasty cast members “Miss Kay” and “Godwin” were finishing up driver introductions for the Sprint Cup NRA 500, there were two cars still in the garage area because NASCAR confiscated some of their car parts after failing pre-race inspection. The Penske Racing teams of Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano could receive fines this week for rear-end parts of their cars that failed inspection. After replacing the parts and going thru inspection again, there was a huge rush to get the cars into position. Keselowski made it in enough time to keep is 16th place starting position, but Logano had to start at the back of the field after NASCAR determined that his car was late making the starting grid. Both teams may receive penalties this week for the car parts that NASCAR’s Robin Pemberton called “not in the spirit of the rule.”

There was a most unfortunate incident that happened during the race, when a fan apparently committed suicide during the final laps of Saturday night’s race. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner office reported Sunday that 42-year-old Kirk Franklin of Saginaw, Texas died as the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Next up, it’s Kansas Speedway for the STP 400. Television coverage will be on Fox beginning at 11:30 a.m. (CDT).
