As we've seen over the years, Jack White has a fascination with vinyl. In fact, his Third Man Records has built a business off of it. But it's quite possible we're about to see White's vinyl fascination expand to a place most never expected ... outer space.

White's label has launched a new teaser video promising that Third Man Records is going to make vinyl history again on July 30. The clip is set against the backdrop of a star-filled sky and the words play out in gold letters much like the Star Wars opening. As the clip continues, we see a gold vinyl platter flipping through the sky and when it approaches its closest to the screen, you can make out that the record is Carl Sagan's "A Glorious Dawn," which was released by Third Man back in 2009.

Sagan was a noted American astronomer who narrated the popular '80s series Cosmos, which explored a wide array of scientific subjects, including our place in the universe. He passed away in 1996, but some of his excerpts were pressed into a 7" record released by White's label.

White had previously discussed his desire to have the first vinyl record played in space with astronaut Buzz Aldrin. He told Aldrin in Interview Magazine that he had been working on a "secret project" to get one of Third Man's songs to be the "first vinyl record played in outer space."

Speaking about how he planned to do it, White revealed that he intended to "launch a balloon that carries a vinyl record player," and that he hoped to figure out a way to "drop the needle with all the turbulence up there and ensure that it will still play."

The newly posted video would appear to tease that White is following through on his plans to make vinyl history in space, with more details announced soon. Stay tuned to see how it plays out.
