The Texarkana College Board of Trustees has voted unanimously to approve the hiring of Kim Jones as the new Chief Financial officer for the college. The board approved the recommendation from the new college President James Henry Russell at a special called meeting last night.

The Texas jobless rate has risen to 8.2% for June. The Texas Workforce Commission says the rate inched up from 8% in May. That figure is below the national average of 9.2%. Texas has added 117,600 jobs since January. The Midland area had the lowest rate at 5.2% with the highest unemployment rate in the McAllen area at 13%.

The Texas Rangers begin a homestand in Arlington tonight. The Rangers who had won 12 games in a row have lost the last 2 to the LA Angels.
