Ken Levine, founder of Irrational Games and writer/director of BioShock and BioShock Infinite, has announced that Irrational Games is closing up shop and is redeveloping itself.

According to the Irrational Games official website, the fan-favorite developer has to whittle down most of its studio and has to steer itself in a new direction. Levine has stated that he had to layoff a vast majority of the studio, leaving pretty much the same handful of people that were when they first started.

Levine said, "In time we will announce a new endeavor with a new goal: To make narrative-driven games for the core gamer that are highly replayable."

Unfortunately, he has also said that they are going to be exclusively focusing on making game content digitally. This could possibly mean that we will not actually see an Irrational game on any type of store shelf for quite some time. As the developers of two timeless classics, we are quite sad to see what happened to the good folks at Irrational.
