Hot Fun at the Dallas Zoo

My wife, son and I were on our way back from Killeen, TX when suddenly my wife gets the brilliant idea to stop at the Dallas Zoo. It seemed brilliant at the time.

Hindsight being 20/20 and all, Dallas in 106 degree summer sun can be quite brutal. We made it through about half the zoo when we said, you know, we should visit here again in the fall, when temperatures are a little more agreeable. So we huffed and puffed and wheezed back to the parking lot and made a vow to not do that again until it cools off a bit.

We did manage to capture a few nice pics though while we were there.

The zoo itself is quite shady thank goodness, there are plenty of water fountains, some worked, some did not. There are also quite a few places to grab food and drink around the zoo, keep in mind you will be paying three prices for refreshments though.

By the way there is something special about animal droppings and 100 plus degree temperatures, the aroma was… thick.

There was also a guy in front of us near the tiger enclosure who’s Old Spice-de-la-B.O. almost gave us the dry-heaves!

Admission is a bit on the steep side in my humble opinion.

$12 for adults

$9 for children

$7 for parking

There are no admission or parking fees if you’re a member of the Dallas Zoological Society, but unless you’re planning on going more than twice a year, that’s not worth it.

It was a hot day, but we had a good time. I think I still prefer the Fort Worth Zoo overall but the Dallas Zoo is much better than I remember from when I was a kid growing up in the Dallas area.
