There is nothing like going to your mailbox and receiving a greeting card from a loved one. Unfortunately, Hallmark is feeling the competition of social media. People just aren't buying cards like they use too.

Hallmark Cards Inc. announced last week that they will be closing a plant in Kansas and cutting about 300 jobs.

They have tried to keep up with the times with online greeting cards and phone apps, but it's not enough.

Over the past decade, the number of greeting cards sold in the U.S. has dropped from 6 billion to 5 billion annually, by Hallmark’s estimates. The Greeting Card Association, an industry trade group based in White Plains, N.Y., puts the overall-sold figure at 7 billion.

How sad. A card says so much more than a message on Facebook or online. It means someone really took the time to pick out a card for you and mail it. I've been amazed at the people that will send "wedding invitations" or a "thank you" for a wedding gift or a birthday present for their child  in a message on Facebook! Yeah, that's special.
