Fat Cat 'Meow' Weighs 39-Lbs, Owner Can't Afford to Feed It

I ran across this story this morning about an animal shelter has placed a 39-pound cat on a diet. The fat cat is named "Meow". She was surrendered by its previous owner, who said at her advanced age she couldn't care for the 2-year-old kitty. Just 2 and it's already 39-pounds. Though the Guinness World Record is 47-pounds.

39-pounds is more than 3-times the average weight for a grown cat. Veterinarian Mary Martin says "Meow" is so heavy, it's like a person weighing over 600-pounds. Martin adds (quote) "We'd like to get 10 pounds off him.

He's still a massive kitty. If he lays a certain way, he can't breathe and his face turns blue. And that's not good."
