It seems counterintuitive to everything that invaded our hormones as teens: finding ways to avoid sex.

A new study has shed some light on the most common excuses we give in order to get out of doing the nasty. As you might imagine, they're about as creative as a "What's your sign?" pick-up line.

  • I'm tired/I'm sleepy
  • I have a headache
  • I have to get up early tomorrow/I have to work the next day
  • I don't feel well/I have body aches/I'm sore/I'm in pain
  • I am too stressed/distracted

An astonishing 98% of people have used some excuse at some point, with the same percentage of women doing so regularly. Sixty-six percent of men have made excuses, while 34% of men confess their partner has caught them fibbing.

We salute the brave souls who use more original lines in order to kill the mood. Saying "We don't have air conditioning and it's hot" or "I lifted some weights and they were a little too heavy and I pulled my groin" shows some real initiative.

That kind of quick-thinking probably makes you even more desirable, creating quite the conundrum for the rejected partner.

It's just like J. Geils said: "Love stinks."
