Whether or not Tropical Storm Harvey adversely affects our weather or not, the city of Texarkana, Texas has some emergency preparedness tips.

According to a release from the city, they want to ensure all residents are aware of available resources in the event that a natural disaster impacted our area either now or in the future.

During flooding type situations. slow down and drive carefully, and allow additional travel time to reach your destination.

Avoid entering flooded roadways.

In the event of power outages, intersections with non-working traffic signals should be treated as four ways stops.

If you are concerned about flooding on your property, plan ahead. The city does not provide sandbags to residents.

The potential track of Tropical Storm Harvey is being watched and the potential for varying amounts of rainfall is in the forecast. While there is no immediate forecast of severe weather in our area, local public safety and emergency preparedness personnel remain vigilant and ready to respond if needed. Additional personnel are on standby in the event weather conditions change or become a threat.

With the potential for weather later this week, and due to recent repairs, City officials will test the tornado sirens today, instead of the usual Wednesday tests.
