If you are a fan of the History Channel then you should make plans to be at the Crater of Diamonds State Park in August. The park in Murfreesboro, Arkansas will be presenting a program with speakers who will talk about various aspects of the diamond mine history. Its all part of the John Huddleston Heritage Day on Saturday, August 4.

John Wesley Huddleston is best known as a struggling farmer who found two diamonds on the surface of a field near Murfreesboro in Pike County back in August of 1906 and made himself and his state famous. He was recognized as the first person outside of South Africa to find diamonds at an original volcanic source.

Of course now a state park, the Crater of Diamonds is the only diamond park where visitors can dig and search and keep any diamonds that they find.

This is the 40th anniversary of the site becoming a state park. Jim Cannon, who was the park superintendent from the early 70′s to 1991, will reminisce about early park diamond finders and events.

The event is free and open to the public and will be held in the visitor center theater from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday August 4. You are invited to attend for a cool afternoon of diamond mine stories on a hot August day.
