We just hope this isn't another Templar ploy as a new director is rumored to have been selected to helm the silver screen version of Assassin's Creed.

Deadline reports that Ubisoft and New Regency have approached Justin Kurzel to direct the live-action adaptation of Assassin's Creed, which will star Michael Fassbender of 'X-Men: First Class' and 'Prometheus' fame. Kurzel has recently directed the Weinstein Company depiction of Shakespeare's Macbeth, which had Fassbender in the lead role. This hints that Fassbender could have liked Kurzel's style of direction and may have helped reel him in for New Regency and Ubisoft.

The two companies are also working on an adaptation of Splinter Cell, with Doug Liman directing and Tom Hardy starring as series lead Sam Fisher. Writers Adam Cooper and Bill Collage have also been involved with writing the script and storyline for the Assassin's Creed film. This pair of writers have recently crafted Ridley Scott's 'Exodus: Gods and Kings' and Darren Aronosky's 'The General.'
