The newest member of the Texarkana, Texas City Council is Christy Paddock who was sworn in last night during Monday's City Council meeting. Judge Sherry Jackson swore Paddock in after the council went into executive session to vote on the issue. Paddock fills the open Ward Five position on the council, which was vacated by the resignation of Bill Miller earlier this month. Miller was chosen by outgoing Texas Governor Rick Perry for a judicial post in Northeast Texas.

The council decided on Paddock after interviewing all six candidates who each submitted letters of interest in the position.

Paddock is a lifelong Texarkana resident and has lived in Ward Five for most of her life. She graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1987 and earned a degree in finance from the University of Texas. Paddock next went on to receive a law degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Paddock's term will expire this May when she will have to opportunity to run for a full term in office.
