It's December and it's getting colder. That means it must be time for the annual Bramlett Beans and Cornbread Community Fundraiser.

The 17th annual luncheon is tomorrow, December 3, from 11AM to 1PM at the Southwest Community Center. Lunch includes beans and cornbread, sponsored by Big Jake’s BBQ and Texarkana Independent School District, sodas sponsored by Coca Cola and coffee and dessert sponsored by Starbucks.

A good lunch and a great cause, proceeds go to the Christmas Basket program. Cost is $5 per person or six non-perishable food items.

Suggested non-perishable food items include:

Canned goods, soups, veggies, fruits, stews, tuna, can chicken, etc.

Package goods like: rice, macaroni, pasta and sauces, instant potatoes, instant oatmeal, grits, cereal, toaster pastries and snack cakes.

Necessities like: flour, sugar, and cornmeal.

Assorted: Dry beans, crackers, cookies, candy, peanut butter, pudding, & gelatin.

This year the Empty Bowls Project will be held in conjunction with the luncheon. An international grass roots effort, they raise both money and awareness in the fight to end hunger. They ceramic classes at Texas High have created bowls which will be displayed in silent auction style, for those who would like to bid on them.

Proceeds will be combined to help give those in need a better Christmas meal.
