Redwater, Texas water customers are being told to boil their water before consuming it.

The Redwater City Website issued the following advisory and boil order:

Due to chlorine residuals below state requirement levels, today the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has required our public water system City of Redwater, PWS ID 0190008, to notify customers of the need to boil their water prior to consumption.

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and making ice should be boiled and cooled prior to use. The water should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the water system officials will notify you that the water is safe for consumption. Instruction to discontinue boiling will be issued in the same manner as this notice.

City water officials are continuing to flush water lines in hopes of correcting the problem. Water pressure may be low at times due to continuous flushing.

If you have questions concerning this matter, you may contact Public Works Director Tom Townsend at 903-277-7352 or Victor Constantine at 903-277-3005.

If you wish to contact TCEQ, call 512-239-4691.
