The body of a local man who drowned in the Sulphur River was recovered Thursday afternoon in Miller County, ARK.

According to the Miller County Sheriffs Office searchers from the Miller County Office of Emergency Management in conjunction with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, the Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Department, and the Bright Star Volunteer Fire Department, recovered the body of 21-year-old Ryan Shane Johnson of Fouke, Arkansas from the Sulphur River at the Smith Park Landing.

Smith went missing after be swept under the water on Tuesday evening.

The Sheriff's Office would like to thank the Corp of Engineers, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Salvation Army, Red Cross, Bowie County Sheriffs Office, Genoa Volunteer Fire Department, Boggy Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Mandeville Volunteer Fire Department, the Doddridge Volunteer Fire Department, the Bowie County Dive Team and many others who volunteered their time during this unfortunate incident.

Each of these entities devoted many hours assisting in the recovery.  Their time and effort was essential in the process and the sheriffs office want to extend our thanks for their dedication to duty.
