Watch Gal Gadot and Jason Statham Team Up to Kick Some Butt in This Super Bowl Ad
Super Bowl ads often employ a familiar algorithm: Beloved pop culture noun + beloved pop culture noun = Entertainment. That equation isn’t always successful (see also: Passengers), but that hasn’t stopped studios and businesses, like Wix.com, from trying it out. The company has tapped Gal Gadot, aka Wonder Woman, and Jason Statham, aka Badass Action Dude, for their Super Bowl ad, which just so happens to be the first of this year’s bunch.
Will Smith in Talks for Disney’s Live-Action ‘Dumbo’ Movie
If you’ve ever wondered what a Tim Burton movie starring Will Smith would look like, you might find out relatively soon. The actor is reportedly circling a role in Disney’s live-action remake of Dumbo, which Burton has been attached to direct for some time now. After delivering the disappointing one-two punch of Suicide Squad and Collateral Beauty, Smith sure could use a win, and joining Disney’s growing empire of live-action remakes seems like a pretty safe bet.
Carrie Fisher’s Obituary Request Was Typically Witty and Wonderful
Today we mourn the loss of Carrie Fisher: Iconic actor, talented author, brilliant script doctor and, most of all, an incomparable force to be reckoned with. There are so many great adjectives you could use to describe Fisher: Uncompromising, unapologetic, fierce, witty, relatable, real, honest. She took all of those qualities and put them to work in her books — from memoirs to novels, Fisher had a knack for telling poignant and painful stories with wit and wisdom. Writing a worthy obituary for one of the best and boldest women on this planet or any other is surely an impossible task…so it’s a good thing that the perfect obit basically already exists, and unsurprisingly, Fisher came up with it herself.
Jimmy Kimmel Will Host the 2017 Academy Awards
Not long after setting Mike DeLuca and Jennifer Todd as showrunners, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has officially selected the host of the 2017 Oscars telecast. Drumroll please…oh, forget it, you saw the headline. It’s Jimmy Kimmel, comedian, host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! and, most importantly, the guy who brought you celebrities reading mean tweets about themselves for your entertainment.
What’s Expiring From Netflix Instant: December 2016
Netflix may be giving us Captain America: Civil War on Christmas (and many more great additions next month), but there are also several titles expiring from the service in December, including — gasp — every season of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Okay, you might not be all that concerned about Kevin Sorbo’s biceps, but chances are there’s at least one or two things on this list of expiring movies and TV shows that you’ll probably want to watch before they leave Netflix next month.
Robert Vaughn, Star of ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’, Has Passed Away at 83
Robert Vaughn, best known for his television roles in such classics as The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and The Protectors, has passed away at the age of 83. Vaughn, who began his career in the ’50s with appearances on shows like As the World Turns and West Point, died today, November 11. His manager, Matthew Sullivan, confirmed that Vaughn succumbed to a fight with acute leukemia.
‘Rambo’ Reboot in the Works Without Sylvester Stallone, Which Doesn’t Sound Like ‘Rambo’ At All
It’s been quite A Day, and we’ll forgive you for being distracted by the latest political news (aka What Did Anthony Weiner Do This Time?!) — as such, we also regret to inform you that the director of the recent action thriller Criminal is helming a new reboot of Rambo that will not feature Sylvester Stallone, which, if our science is correct, does not sound like a Rambo movie at all.
Relax, Tom Cruise Is Officially Returning For ‘Mission: Impossible 6’
Pre-production on Mission: Impossible 6 came to a halt last month when a contract dispute between Tom Cruise and Paramount threatened to stall the sixth installment in the blockbuster franchise. The sticking point? Cruise wanted the studio to match — or top — what Universal is paying him to star in The Mummy reboot, but Paramount was a little contentious…yeah right, as if they weren’t going to give Tom Cruise, the star of one of their biggest franchises, what he wants.
‘Blair Witch’ Director Adam Wingard on the Challenges of Making a Scary Sequel and That Wild Ending
Adam Wingard and screenwriter Simon Barrett have collaborated on several projects together, including recent genre favorites You’re Next and The Guest, in which they subversively repurposed familiar tropes in new and original ways — which is what makes their decision to create a sequel to The Blair Witch Project kind of surprising. A solid follow-up to the 1999 found footage classic, Blair Witch offers recognizable beats with bigger, more frightening (and louder) scares, and a third act that features a pretty clever twist. Ahead of the film’s release, we had a chance to speak with Wingard about the challenges of making a sequel to one of the most beloved horror films, the evolution of found footage and that crazy, mind-bending ending.
‘Annabelle 2’ Trailer: Oh Good, That Creepy Doll Is Back Again
Just when you thought it was safe to buy dolls again…Nope. Here’s the first trailer for Annabelle 2, which, as the title suggests, is a sequel to last year’s relatively successful James Wan-produced spinoff of The Conjuring, featuring that damn creepy doll and her creepy antics. This time, she’s terrorizing a doll-maker, and that seems totally fair, to be honest, since he’s responsible for the creation of her kind and their endless suffering at the hands of ruthless children.
Mark Hamill and His Beard Will Probably Return in ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’
It’s been an interesting couple of weeks for actors and their beards. Last week, Hugh Jackman shaved off his famous Wolverine facial hair for the very last time (sniffle), and now that filming on Star Wars: Episode VIII is complete, Mark Hamill is saying goodbye to his Luke Skywalker beard — but don’t worry, he’ll probably be back (beard and all) for Episode IX.
First ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ Trailer Will Probably Hit Theaters With ‘Doctor Strange’
James Gunn recently said that we probably won’t get to see the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 footage from Comic-Con anytime soon, but what about the trailer? Using logic and a little deductive reasoning, the answer seems pretty obvious. Marvel usually drops the first teaser trailer for a new film about six months ahead of its release date; the Guardians sequel hits theaters in May; Doctor Strange hits theaters in November. According to Kevin Feige, we’re probably right about this.
