A section of U.S. 59/71 just north of Texarkana will receive a new riding surface this year.

According to plans approved this month by the Texas Department of Transportaton, TxDOT area engneer says, " we will be resurfacing a 3.9 mile section of the highway from the Red River southward."

Icenhower adds, "in addition to the new pavement, we will also be upgrading bridge rail and guard rail in this area.".

R.K. Hall of Paris, Texas, was awarded the contract for the construction project with a bid of $1.4 million.

Work on the project should begin sometime in August and take about three months to complete.
