A&M-Texarkana to Honor Veterans This Week

The students at Texas A&M-Texarkana are spending this week honoring veterans. Of course Veterans's Day is this Wednesday, November 11.The university will honor and celebrate the nation’s veterans and active-duty military during “More than Just a Day” hosted by the Student Veterans Association and Veterans Services office during the week of Nov. 9-13 on the A&M-Texarkana campus at 7101 University Ave., Texarkana, Texas.

Veterans, active military, dependents and immediate family members of active or veteran service members can pick up a free flag lapel pin on Monday and Tuesday from 9AM to 2PM on the first floor of the University Center or in the Veterans Services office on the second floor of the University Center.
 
Monday through Thursday, the Student Veterans Association will host a silent auction from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first floor of the University Center. Proceeds will benefit the Student Veterans Association and its philanthropy, Patriot Paws Service Dogs of Rockwall, Texas. Bidding will close at 2PM on Thursday, and winners will be announced on Friday.
 
On Monday and Tuesday in the University Center lobby, individuals may purchase flags in memory or honor of past and present service members for a $1 donation to the Student Veterans Association. On Wednesday, there will be a “Plant a Flag” ceremony from 8:30-11AM on the University Center lawn.
 
At 11AM on Wednesday, there will be a Veterans Day ceremony at 11AM followed by a cake and punch social in Eagle Lounge on the first floor of the University Center.
 
Thursday is Military Appreciation Day at A&M-Texarkana. From 11AM to 2PM on the University Center lawn, local U.S. Marines and their recruits will be on campus to showcase aspects of military life, such as physical training and transportation.
 
At 4PM on Thursday, the Student Veterans Association will show the 1994 comedy “In the Army Now,” featuring Pauly Shore in the Eagle Lounge on the first floor of the University Center. Free pizza will be served.
 
On Thursday at 7PM, the university will host an Honors Program Colloquium, “Patton’s Third Army: The Corps Commanders,” featuring Dr. Gene Mueller, university historians and members of the Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society in University Center 217.
 
“Red Shirt Friday” will be celebrated on Nov. 13. Students, faculty, staff and members of the community are encouraged to wear red in honor and remembrance of those who are currently deployed.
 
The community is invited to participate in all “More than Just a Day” veterans week activities at A&M-Texarkana.
