Earlier this week Michael Fassbender appeared on BBC’s Radio 2 and spoke about the upcoming Prometheus sequel/Alien prequel Alien: Covenant. The actor seemed to reveal the name of the new Xenomorphs in the movie.

During the interview with Mark Goodier, Fassbender mentioned the name “Neomorphs.” A handful of sites seemed to think the actor had revealed the name of the new Xenomorphs in the movie, but Fassbender was actually talking about the aliens in the original Ridley Scott Alien film. Here’s Fassbender’s full quote:

With Alien [my parents] allowed me to watch it and I just remember seeing where the Neomorph, or whatever that creature is, burst out of John Hurt’s stomach.

But now AVP Galaxy (h/t Dark Horizons) is saying Fassbender did actually reveal some news. The site claims they can confirm the new creatures in Alien: Covenant will be called Neomorphs, so if that’s to be believed then Fassbender could have gotten the new name mixed up with the old one. AVP Galaxy also has a ton of previously unheard rumors about the movie’s new creatures, their origins, and how they infect the crew members. Of course, take all of this with a grain of salt. Majors spoilers follow for Alien: Covenant.

According to AVP Galaxy, the new aliens reportedly spawn from black goo mutating a local ecosystem. When pods growing on trees are disturbed, they release spores, and those spores enter the crew members of Covenent through their nostrils and ears. And that’s when things turn ugly. According to the site, “The spores cause the growth of the Neomorphs inside the infected hosts […] One of the Neomorphs bursts from the back of one of the infected crew, a backburster. The other crew member’s Neomorph erupts through their throat.”

The rumors from AVP Galaxy also suggest the Neomorphs will resemble the concept art of the proto-aliens from Prometheus, including a pointed head, white coloring and two dorsal spikes. When these creatures are finally born, the site claims they’ll crawl similarly to the “Bambi Burster” of Alien 3. And here’s what AVP Galaxy says happens when they grow big:

When they mature, they grow significantly larger and walk on their back legs. They were more animal-like in behaviour with fang-like teeth. Unlike the earlier Prometheus concepts, the Neomorphs also have tails. In addition, the adult Neomorphs also developed a slightly translucent appearance (harkening back to unused concepts from Alien and Prometheus) as previously rumored.

So if any of that turns out to be true, we’re in for some new creatures that feature familiar elements. What we do know about Alien: Covenant is that it features the return of Fassbender’s synthetic David and Noomi Rapace’s Dr. Elizabeth Shaw, plus Katherine Waterston as crew captain Daniels, Danny McBride, Demian Bichir, Amy Seimetz, Billy Crudup, Carmen Ejogo and Jussie Smollett. The film follows the crew when they stumble upon a planet that appears to be an uncharted paradise where the only inhabitant is David. Alien: Covenant hits theaters August 4, 2017.
